Bodega Bay combines a protected harbor with a rugged, exposed outer coastline. The area is strongly influenced by North Pacific swell, coastal wind and cold-water upwelling, with large differences possible between sheltered and ocean-facing locations.

Seasonal pattern: Water is cold year-round. Spring and summer often bring strong northwest wind and upwelling, while winter can bring large west and northwest swell.
